America Recycles Day is Friday, November 15, 2019.
Now that we know the date, why do we have a National Recycling Day?
The big idea is that recycling helps to reduce what goes into our landfills. As such, a very practical way to keep from adding to the local dump is by recycling electronic waste.
Old electronics that have outlived their usefulness (e-waste) often end up in the trash. However, these items are easily recycled.
Case in point, electronics such as computers, tablets and monitors are all examples of technology that can be recycled.
Some additional qualifying electronics include:
- Cell phones
- Hard drives
(See this list of over 80 items that qualify for free electronics recycling.)
Although it is easy to identify electronics that need to be recycled, it may be difficult for individuals to know where and how to properly recycle them.
Fortunately, there is a solution to the problem.
Local businesses can host an America Recycles Day event at their company or office building.
The major benefit of a company sponsored electronics recycle event is that it provides a safe and convenient way for employees to recycle their personal electronics at work.
How does the recycle day event work?
A successful America Recycles Day event can be achieved by following these three steps:
1. Set a date for the recycle day and get the word out to all employees. Make sure to include a list of items that can be recycled and the location of the collection area for the donations.
2. Notify Ecycle Atlanta of the event and when you would like your items to be picked up.
3. Congratulate all members for their contributions in recycling their old electronics in a safe and responsible manner.
Note: Businesses and office buildings who are currently using our technology recycling services are already familiar with how to schedule a pickup with us. The only difference is that with America Recycles Day, company employees will be able to add to the items being recycled.
Why is America Recycles Day held on November 15?
Scheduling the recycle day for November 15, 2019 serves two purposes.
The first objective for this date is to be a reminder to recycle. Properly disposing of personal computers and other devices is not always on the forefront of our minds.
As such, identifying an exact date (11/15/19), helps people to focus on being environmentally friendly when recycling.
The second purpose of the specific date is to allow everyone time to plan for the electronics recycling event.
However, just because America Recycles Day is on November 15, doesn’t mean that the event must be held on that exact day. In fact, the actual recycle day can even be held before or after the scheduled date.
Additionally, the event does not have to be limited to one day. Some companies may even choose to have an America Recycles Week as opposed to a single recycle day.
As you can see, there is a great amount of flexibility provided to businesses in hosting the National Recycle Day.
